Mexican Customs Office to Open in Kansas City: NAFTA SuperHighway

So you think illegal immgration is bad? Try this on for size: right in the heart of the United States, Mexico will have its own, autonomous (not governed by US law) customs office. I swear that I'm not making this up. From Human Events:

"Quietly but systematically, the Bush Administration is advancing the plan to build a huge NAFTA Super Highway, four football-fields-wide, through the heart of the U.S. along Interstate 35, from the Mexican border at Laredo, Tex., to the Canadian border north of Duluth, Minn."

You bet your butt it's quiet, but it gets worse:

"A brochure on the SmartPort website describes the plan in glowing terms: “For those who live in Kansas City, the idea of receiving containers nonstop from the Far East by way of Mexico may sound unlikely, but later this month that seemingly far-fetched notion will become a reality.” "

But the conclusion they draw is most frightening:

"A good reason Bush does not want to secure the border with Mexico may be that the administration is trying to create express lanes for Mexican trucks to bring containers with cheap Far East goods into the heart of the U.S., all without the involvement of any U.S. union workers on the docks or in the trucks."

If that's true, we've got bigger problems than we thought

Yeah I saw soem things about this the other day. There was even a nice graphic picture done up. Perhaps it was from human events, but I am not sure.

But what the hell... a customs office need to be in KC for. If anything (ok i am being logical while the devil's advocate too) it should be at the border like every other country. Still as you pointed out... this does explain alot of things to Bush's negligence to seal the borders.

When I was state side driving home from work many a night, I would listen to "The Trucking Bozo". Yes somewhat of a redneck show, but very informative on this industry. Many of the "big Trucks" from Mexico do not meet up to the standards that even the worst ones in the US are at. This is a great cause for concern just on public safety on the roads. Next look at the terrorism aspect... do we really think that those containers will be properly inspected and kept secure at during transport prior to arriving on american soil? I don't think so. Now I-35 goes right through and by major cities, it also is adjacent to some large military posts as well. Not a nice thought about that either.

What's to happen with the Turnpike... is there going to be lanes exclusivly for transport and then for cars and such. It is nothing but a huge mess.

Do you feel like you just visited King Kong's proctologist?

I too have been looking for any solid link to that story I cited. Grrr nothing only old stuff.

This SUCKS!!!!! if it is true it is a violation of NAFTA. UnderNafta Mexican trucks are not only supposed to be upgraded and meet our standards ... by the way they DO NOT, but they are limited to within one hundred 100 miles of the boarder. They are not allowed to travel further north then that.

When will America wake up that Mexico is not our friend and they could care less about our laws and our way of life. After thier up coming elections when they put into office this communist maybe then more people will realize what is happening.
